So, I finally convinced my parents that they need a computer to survive, a Macintosh to be exact. I wouldn't want to drive to their place once a week to do system maintenance on a Windows system, so this way they'll be happy I guess.
A Mac mini with 1.42 GHz, 512 MB RAM, Bluetooth, AirPort as well as a mouse and a keyboard comes to about 666,- €, a 19" TFT display comes to another 400,- € - that's pretty much the amount they're happy to spend.
So, we've discussed this all on Sunday, and the next day I read about this nice display:
It's exactly what I was looking for, a 19" TFT display, plus it is really fitting the Mac mini well. I think my parents are going to love it :-)
Installing a RAM upgrade in the Mac mini can be quite a hassle, especially since the machine is pretty tough to open and only has one memory slot.
